Personal Effects Clearances
Personal Effects are the personal property of a person that is coming to Australia to take up, or to resume permanent residence. Goods that are considered Personal Effects by Australian Customs are listed in Customs Bylaw number 0906051.
Essentially to be considered Personal Effects the Importer must have owned and used the goods for the 12 months preceding export to Australia. Special conditions apply to some items, for example a security deposit may be required on some goods.
There are no concessions for the personal Import of vehicles, Customs will collect Customs Duty and GST at the time of Import on any Imported vehicles, usually this duty and GST will be based on a local Landed Australian valuation.
All Personal Effects shipments will be subject to examination by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection service.
